Small Florida Condo Decorating Ideas

The typical condo is designed with spaciousness in mind. While the open floor plans do have a light and airy feel, they can often lack the character that creates an inviting atmosphere. But if anyone can tackle that challenge, it's Toronto-based interior designer Jacquelyn Clark of Lark & Linen.

In her 700-square-foot apartment, she opted for a neutral palette that gave her the flexibility to change the color scheme easily when the whim strikes in the future. "I'm a huge proponent of starting with a neutral base and adding in color, texture and hints of wow through accessories." Clark says. "Designing this way really allows you to switch everything up without having to drop a ton of dough. It's a great solution for tighter budgets."

Though many automatically equate neutral with boring, it's simply not the case here. Take, for instance, the light gray upholstered pieces. They have a bold silhouette that visually registers without dominating the room. The distressed finish of the wood coffee table also makes a big impact, introducing an organic element in the modern space. In the bedroom, the light colors shift the focus to the contemporary artworks and pillows.

The real star, however, is the graphic "office" area. Initially, Clark wanted to define the space with wallpaper, but opted for more budget-friendly black and white painted stripes instead. It's a dramatic backdrop for the vintage desk (bought for Clark by her mother at IKEA 25 years ago!) and the neighboring industrial-chic DIY pipe bookcase.

In the open floor plan, using dramatic elements helped Clark create "rooms" that made the space feel a little more intimate. A glossy black cabinet (which belonged to Clark's grandmother) anchors the dining room while expanding storage.
